Become a dental assistant in just 10 weeks. Benefit from hands-on learning in a real dental office. You learn by doing so you have the skills to be confident and successful your first day on the job.

The Dental Assisting Program at CDAS is designed to provide the necessary education and training for graduates to become proficient in the execution of their duties and knowledgeable about the delivery of dental health care.

Our training is specifically designed to give you the hands on experience and real life examples required to make you a confident and competent dental assistant.

Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They work chairside as dentists examine and treat patients. They make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records. Assistants hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients’ mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Assistants also sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.

Our philosophy:

The philosophy of CDAS is based on the belief  that people can be trained in a relatively short period of time to enter the world of professional dental assisting.  We also believe that the amount of on the job experience, not classroom hours, is the better teacher.

Therefore, it is our purpose to  equip each student with the basic skills necessary to enter the workplace and begin to gather experience.

A successful career in dental assisting is dependant upon a good academic foundation, a pleasing personality and dedication to the concept of patient care.

The Dental Assisting Program at CDAS is designed to provide the necessary educational background and training for graduates to become proficient in the execution of their duties and knowledgeable about the delivery of dental healthcare.

These courses of study came into being as result of conversations between dentists.  Every dentist  recognizes the importance of a good dental assistant in helping him/her provide the best care to his/her patients.

A trained dental assistant reduces the stress on both the patient and doctor, and keeps the practice growing and profitable.  Given the shortage of trained dental assistants, the existing obstacles for a person to go to school for training and the unwillingness of dentists to train someone from “scratch”, CDAS came into being.

What does a dental assistant do?

Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They work chairside as dentists examine and treat patients. They make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records. Assistants hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients’ mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Assistants also sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.

Some dental assistants prepare materials for impressions and restorations, take dental x rays, and process x-ray film as directed by a dentist. They also may remove sutures, apply topical anesthetics to gums or cavity-preventive agents to teeth, remove excess cement used in the filling process, and place rubber dams on the teeth to isolate them for individual treatment.

What our students and graduates receive:

Upon successful completion of studies the  graduate will receive a certificate of proficiency issued by Careers in Dental Assisting School. All students also receive a dental assistant pin and letter of recommendation for those who qualify.

You will be qualified to take the Radiology and Infection Control portions of the DANB exam if you wish to become state certified. You will be qualified to take the Full DANB exam after you have completed 2 years of on the job experience.
